Why Place Still Shapes a Studio

Neue Graphic works between Melbourne and London. On paper that is a logistical detail: two time zones and a lot of early calls. In practice it shapes how we design.

Melbourne is unhurried and sure of itself about craft. London is fast, dense and impatient with anything that wastes a reader’s time. Holding both in mind keeps the work honest: considered without being precious, quick without being thin.

Distance is a kind of editing

Working across cities forces clarity. You cannot lean on a hallway conversation to explain a logo. The idea has to carry itself. A brand identity built to survive that distance tends to survive the real world too: different screens, different hands, different markets.

It also keeps our references wide. A studio that only ever looks at its own street starts to repeat itself. Two cities, two design cultures and a steady stream of new work is a good defence against that.

So when people ask where we are based, the honest answer is: in between. We think it shows in the work, and we think that is a good thing.
